On Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 1 p.m., a peaceful demonstration of solidarity will take place called the Atlanta March for Social Justice & Women. The march will rally members of underrepresented communities, women, and their allies from across Georgia and the nation. The march will begin at the Center for Civil and Human Rights and will conclude at the Georgia State Capitol. While an independent movement, the Atlanta March for Social Justice & Women event is officially recognized by the Women’s March on Washington D.C. to which tens of thousands of Americans have pledged their support.

The Atlanta March champions: immigrants of all statuses; Muslims and those of diverse religious faiths, agnostic or atheist; Native and Indigenous people; individuals of African and Asian descent; Asian Pacific Americans; Latino Americans; those with disabilities; survivors of sexual violence; people who are economically impoverished; the LGBTQIA communities; and women. Looking Forward to 2017!!!

I’m sure that I speak for many when I say that 2016 was an interesting year. However, this has not stopped the flow for Black Nonbelievers. From celebrating our 5th Anniversary in January and featuring Civil Rights legend Annie Pearl Avery (presentations from both events can be found on our YouTube channel, BlackNonbelieversInc), representing at this year’s Reason Rally in DC, and establishing an affiliate in my hometown of New York City, we continue to be on a roll well into the future!

Of course, this wouldn’t be possible without your support and participation. We really appreciate our donors, members and volunteers – it is because of you that we are able to increase the visibility and provide community for Black atheists and religion doubters where there is none in family and friends.

But do you remember this year’s episode of ABC’s Blackish about atheists (profiled by Hemant Mehta, The Friendly Atheist here: Blackish Atheist Episode)? It shows that we still have a long way to go with normalizing atheism in the Black community, and for others to know that Black Nonbelievers exists. Our work needs to continue, and your tax deductible contributions make it happen. If you aren’t already a regular contributor, it’s not too late to sign up on our website!

In closing, I would like to once again say thank you all for a wonderful year. And get ready for our grand event for 2017, which is our Convention at Sea. Featured speakers include Jeremiah Camara, Sikivu Hutchinson, Bria Crutchfield, and more!

Have a very Happy New Year, and may we all continue on our paths to reason and a better life!

BN Comes to NYC!!!

Black Nonbelievers is proud to announce our newest local affiliate – in New York City!

In keeping with our well rounded style of hosting secular, social, and outreach events, Black Nonbelievers is proud to be branching into the New York Tri-State area. While the Northeast is more progressive than in the Bible Belt Southern states, there is still a wall of dogma which penetrates the communities of this city.

As a native New Yorker, I am very excited about our new addition. We have a very strong team of dedicated organizers who will be ready to connect with not only the Black community, but also the secular community. For more information, please visit the Meetup group here: BN-NYC.

We look forward to seeing you at any one of our events in the future, and if you’re in the New York area, be sure to join us!!!

*Black Nonbelievers (BN) is a 501 c3 non-profit fellowship headquartered in the Atlanta area that is dedicated to providing an informative, caring, festive and friendly environment. We strive to connect with other Blacks (and allies) who are living free of religion and irrational beliefs, and might otherwise be shunned by family and friends. Instead of accepting dogma, we seek to determine truth and morality through reason and evidence.

BN welcomes all regardless of sex, sexuality, gender identity, age, national origin or race.

Black Football Player Discloses Nonbelief!

In this ESPN News story, Houston Texans star Arian Foster discusses in detail about not believing in god. This is a major accomplishment not only for the secular community, but because Foster represents a vastly underrepresented segment – people of color. Foster also recorded a video for the Openly Secular campaign, of which Black Nonbelievers is proud to be a movement sponsor.
